| A new booklet to encourage the take up of careers in Ireland’s energy sector has been published by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) and the Energy Institute. The booklet, 'Have you got the energy for success? – A Guide to Careers in Energy', presents the case for students interested in engineering, science and business careers to fulfil those career ambitions in the energy sector. At the booklet launch Irish Minister for Energy Eamon Ryan TD said: “Energy is not an area of fleeting relevance – it will continue to be integral to these areas for decades to come. Employers in the sector need focused, driven and talented personnel in order for their businesses to flourish.” Ireland’s energy sector now ranks alongside pharmaceuticals and information technology as one of the key growth sectors of the Irish economy. According to Liam Connellan of the Energy Institute: “Ireland’s sustainable energy sector will create in the region of 1,000 new jobs annually. There is huge growth potential in the sustainable energy sector as organisations seek to offset the sharp rise in energy prices and to reduce carbon emissions by improved conservation measures and adoption of renewable technologies. The worst possible scenario would be if this potential was limited by a labour shortage. Having enough of the right people is critical in terms of taking things to the next level." The publication can be ordered directly from Sustainable Energy Ireland by contacting 01 8369080 or can be downloaded from SEI’s website www.sei.ie/schools |
